Our commitments

Ekla is an independent Parisian optician, located on rue d'Hauteville in the 10th arrondissement and rue du Faubourg Saint-Antoine in the 11th. We sell frames from independent designers, conduct eye exams on site, and offer direct billing with major healthcare networks.

This page states what we will not compromise on. It is deliberately short: a commitment that cannot be verified in-store is not a commitment, it is a slogan.

What we sell you

Our selection consists of independent designers. No major licensed brands, no collections seen in every shop on the street. It is a deliberate choice, and it has a direct consequence: we can never offer you the cheapest frame in the neighborhood.

What we guarantee in return:

  • Qualified opticians, in both stores, from Tuesday to Saturday. The eye exam, lens fitting, and assembly are carried out by people trained for this.
  • Precise assembly and custom adjustments. A frame that slips or pinches can be corrected. We do this free of charge for frames purchased from us, for life.
  • An after-sales service that responds. If something is wrong with equipment we sold you, we will take care of it.
  • Unlimited try-ons and genuine advice on shapes. No one leaves with a frame they haven't had time to love.

And one thing we stand by: if your current frame still holds up, we will tell you and repair it rather than sell you a new one.

What we charge you

This is our most important commitment, and it is the one we talk about the least elsewhere.

At Ekla, every quote corresponds exactly to what is delivered. The frame you choose, the lenses you are prescribed, nothing more and nothing less. No courtesy contact lens prescription to unlock a package. No inflated price on one item to free up reimbursement on another. No pair of sunglasses disappearing from the invoice.

These arrangements exist, they are common, and they are presented to customers as a service. It is not one. It is insurance fraud, and the customer who accepts it is complicit: their rights are used up for two years, their reimbursement can be claimed back, and their name is on the invoice. We wrote an entire article about this, because it is rarely explained: what you really risk when an optician offers to arrange your invoice.

Our position, in one sentence: a mutual insurance contract must be respected, and any allocation of a reimbursement to a product that does not justify it is a fault, not a favor.

In practice, in-store:

  • We provide you with a detailed quote item by item before any commitment.
  • If your guarantee does not cover the full cost of your choice, we will tell you, even when it costs us a sale.
  • We look at the options that actually exist with you, including the 100% SantΓ©, the only offer whose zero out-of-pocket cost is guaranteed by law.
  • We offer direct billing with major healthcare networks, which remains rare for an independent shop. This is also what requires us to be irreproachable about billing. Details are on our mutual insurance page.
